2b. Developmental Biology II: Methods in Avian Development Biology (practial course)
Objectives: To give an introduction to the chicken embryo as an experimental system in modern developmental biology. The following topics will be covered: Isolation and staging of chicken embryos (timed incubations and dissection), Manipulation of chicken embryos: (windowing of eggs, in ovo electroporation, bead implantation, whole mount in situ hybridization, and in vitro culture of whole chicken embryos. This course is the second of a series of three independent courses that cover theoretical and practical aspects of modern developmental biology. DB1 is the theoretical part and completion of DB1 is required for participation in DB2 and DB3. DB3 is a practical course deals with genetic manipulation of the mouse.
